Enrolment requirements

We want everyone to have a great experience at Waggy Tails and to ensure the health and safety of all our canine clients and human staff.

First day

  • On your first day we will perform a temperament assessment before your pup can be accepted to attend regular day care.
  • This will allow us to evaluate your dog, and determine if your dog is comfortable and safe in a group play environment.
  • After passing the assessment your dog is welcome to join the Waggy Tails pack.
  • The cost for your pups first day is $80 which includes a play day

We perform our assessments on Mondays and Fridays.

Arrival time

  • So we can appropriately structure our play groups and get all of our fur-kids settled for their morning play, we would appreciate if you could have your fur-kids checked in by 9.30am.
  • If you require to be checked in a little later please chat to us so we can prepare our groups for your arrival

Day care commitment

  • We do not accept dogs on an ad hoc basis.
  • We require all of our dogs to be committed to at least 1-2 days per week of day care.
  • This enables each dog to establish their position in their pack, understand the expectations of behaviour in a pack environment and also continue to feel comfortable and familiar with their new environment and new friends. Your dog will be happier and better socialized.
  • Dogs that attend on an ad hoc basis are often either highly anxious, forget what is expected of them or exhibit unwanted behaviours like barking, mounting, bullying or rough play.

Dog must be

  • Friendly and non-aggressive with other dogs and humans.
  • Up-to-date with all vaccinations C5 level and current certificates are required
  • Puppies are permitted 10 days following their 2nd vaccinations
  • All dogs over 1 year of age must be de-sexed
  • Dogs will be required to undertake a temperament assessment - this will be performed on their first day of day care

Not all dogs feel comfortable in a Day Care environment.

Some reasons that we might deny an enrolment are:

  • Aggression toward other dogs or staff
  • Fear or anxiety that keep the dog from being able to relax and play safely with other dogs
  • Bullying other dogs
  • Excessive mounting or barking

As part of the code of practice of operating a day care facility we do not accept any restricted breeds.

The following breeds are not permitted at Waggy Tails:

  • American Pit Bull Terrier, Fila Braziliero, (aka Brazilian Mastiff),Japanese Tosa (aka Japanese Mastiff)
  • Dogo Argentina (aka Argentinean Mastiff), Presa Canario.

FAQ's

Will my dog be safe? Are there any risks?

Safety is our number one priority, which is why we separate our groups based on their play style and energy levels. This separation allows shyer and quieter dogs to open up to other dogs with similar play styles and to avoid feeling overwhelmed or shut down, as well as minimizing the risk of accidents from happening. We encourage a safe and positive atmosphere to ensure all dogs can play freely and comfortably. We have a special puppy group and a seniors group for those that like to chill out with their fellow seniors. Proof of current vaccination C5 level is a condition of entry to our premises.

How often should my dog come to daycare?

Your dog can attend every day, a few times a week or even just one day a week to give them a day out. It's up to you whether your dog comes casually or regularly however we recommend that a dog will be happier and better socialised by attending day care at least 2 times per week.  This way your pup will continue to feel comfortable and familiar with their new environment and new friends.

Do I need to be there on the first day?

It is better to see how your dog copes on the first day without you so you are not required to be there. We will assess your dog paying particular attention to their dog language, how comfortable they seem and how they might interact with other dogs. We will slowly introduce the staff and other dogs if suitable. Though out the day we will monitor your dogs interaction with other dogs, and changes in behaviour and how they are responding to the environment. We will give you an update of the day went when you collect your pup. Feel free to call us after lunch to see how things are going.

Does my dog need to be de-sexed and how old does my dog need to be?

All dogs over 1 year of age must be de-sexed and puppies are permitted 10 days following their 2nd vaccinations..
